O'Reilly caught Lying About His Book Sales
Drudge vs O'Reilly - Facts (Drudge) vs Fiction (O'Reilly)
Let the games begin !
UPDATE 1-21-04 Source - Steve Senti, I just heard this and saw this with my own ears and eyes.
O'Reilly just admitted he does not know how many Hillary books the DNC bought. He said he wrote a letter to the DNC asking them how many Hillary books they bought, they refused to tell him.
Bill O'Reilly -- Imus TV/Radio show - 1-21-04 7:34am cst.
Yet he said he was not going to count them in her total sales, how can he not count them if he does not know how many the DNC bought ?
If he can not prove how many books they bought, or give a number, how can he claim they bought any or how many. Is that what a respectable journalist would do ?
He also said Frankens book is being bought in bulk, if that is true how come the NY Times bestseller list does not list any bulk sales on Frankens book. There is no proof or evidence that any of Al Frankens books have been bought in Bulk. On the other hand, you can get O'Reilly's book for $1 if you join the conservative book club. Yet he never mentions that does he ? If that's not spin, I don't know what is. Not to mention if Bill is an independent why is the conservative book club giving his book away for $1 with a paid membership ?

"The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day"
We had yet another ridiculous snowstorm yesterday here in New York. Whenever that happens, chaos ensues, children are frightened, adults wail and gnash their teeth. In the midst of it all, about 600 people turned out to see me at Costco on Long Island. I was signing copies of Who's Looking Out for You? These folks obviously were looking out for me as well as being real troopers.
While I was signing it, a Costco manager handed me a sheet of paper with sales figures. As you know, we are in a fight with Hillary Clinton for bestselling non-fiction book of the year. Since September, in Costcos across the country, Who's Looking Out for You? has sold 96,000. Hillary's book has sold less than 9,000 copies. Ninety-six thousand. Nine thousand. We've got a real shot at overtaking Mrs. Clinton. We have two weeks to do it. Ridiculous? Only if you're rooting for her.

But numbers obtained by the DRUDGE REPORT show a dramatically different sales scene for 2003.

HOST UNHINGED AFTER SALES FIGURES REVEALED; CALLS DRUDGE 'THREAT TO DEMOCRACY'
TalkerAuthor Bill O'Reilly lashed out against this space during his popular FOXNEWS O'REILLY FACTO Wednesday nigh -- just hours after closely guarded book sales figures were splashed all over the internet. Sales figures show how, contrary to his claims, O'Reilly lags far behind rivals Al Franken and Sen. Hillary Clinton for nonfiction props!
MORE Responding to an exclusive yearender DRUDGE dispatch, which presented NIELSEN's Top 20 BOOKSCAN list of 2003 sales, O'Reilly called the DRUDGE REPORT a "threat to democracy."
"I mean you can't believe a word Matt Drudge says," O'Reilly told the cameras. "Now you've got the Matt Drudges of the world and these other people, Michael Moore and all of these crazies, all right, no responsibility... that is a threat to democracy, I think." O'Reilly warned:
"They'll just spin it and twist it and take it out of proportion every which way."
MORE
Last year, the host of Cable TVs most-watched newscast became unbuckled and turned unstable after this space first revealed how O'Reilly was plotting a new radio program to air opposite Rush Limbaugh [who had just lost his hearing] and how WOR-AM in New York would receive cash compensation from VIACOM to carry the program. [The broadcast launched several months later.]
MORE
"There is no other cure than to kill Matt Drudge," O'Reilly charged on the IMUS in the MORNING radio show.
"I just want to tell everybody that Matt Drudge is smoking crack - right now, in South Miami Beach on Washington Avenue... And the authorities should know it."

UPDATE: 12-19-03 -- O'Reilly just keeps digging the hole deeper and deeper, notice how he spins the numbers with no facts to back up what he says. He makes it look like his book is running neck and neck with the Hillary Clinton book. Just look at the actual numbers from Drudge. I report, you decide.
Factor Talking Points for Thursday 12-18-03 -
Time now for "The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day."
The Palm Beach Post is reporting that Senator Hillary Clinton (search) signed books for hundreds of people down in Florida --but the average time they got with her? Each person? [Just] eight seconds. Eight! Whoa.
Mrs. Clinton has had time to do scores of signings around the country, but I've only had time to do four because I have to work. I'd love to be down there in South Florida signing copies of Who's Looking Out for You?
Believe me, you'd get more than eight seconds with me, although some folks think that's too much time.
As for the race between Hillary's book and Who's Looking Out? we are closing in. Broadway Books (search) has gone back for a sixth printing since September, bringing the total of Who's... in print to close to a million. The senator has sold around a million, but a good amount of those were purchased by the Democratic National Committee. That doesn't count, Senator.
Who's Looking Out for You? is number one this Sunday on The New York Times list and the following Sunday as well. We thank you all very much. You're doing it, not The New York Times. It's a great Christmas present for us from you.
This is a really good race and only ridiculous if you believe those dopey Web sites. Oh, man. I -- I can't do it. I'm not going to do it. But I've got to tell you just please don't believe the Web sites.
